Disney announced today that Disney XD will launch a reboot of the 80s animated TV series, Ducktales. The original show lasted from 1987 to 1990 and spawned a feature film, DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp. It featured the adventures of multi-zillionaire Scrooge McDuck, his three great-nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie and a bunch of eccentric secondary characters.
Said Marc Buhaj, Senior Vice President, Programming and General Manager of Disney XD:
"DuckTales has a special place in Disney’s TV animation history. It drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks’ comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults. Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.”I for one am a huge Carl Barks (and Keno Don Rosa) fan and am excited to see Scrooge McDuck & Co. coming back. I feel the world needs more of this beloved cast of characters, and hopefully this TV show is only a first step toward bringing them to a new/younger audience. The duck characters are still pretty big in Europe, but very few US kids are familiar with the property, so it's good that this is happening.
The show is set to arrive on Disney XD in 2017.
And now, for nostalgia's sake, the DuckTales opening song:
